Discussion Topic: The role of Palestinians in deciding their fate

Israel, in its fourth day of a massive military assault of Gaza in which at least 70 Palestinians have been killed, has avoided criticism in the United Nations. An Arab-sponsored draft UN resolution condemning the Gaza offensive was vetoed on Tuesday by the US. The text was supported by 11 nations, but Britain, Germany and Romania abstained, and it was killed by the US. What position does this put the Palestinian people in? Resistance to the occupation is condemned internationally while formal channels of dialogue like the UN are blocked as well. What do you think the role is for the Palestinian people in deciding their fate?

Herzl. Grüße dir und deiner Familie! Ellen R.

I think the Palestinians need to work together as a unit under a new government to implement a new strategy of non-violent struggle. Without the violence, they will have the support of 98% of the world and most Israelis. They also need to reach out to Israelis and explain their problems and aims.

Helping a 29 year old art student who day by day grows more and more weary of the luxuries of the US and wants to try and help in any way that I can and if it means standing in front of bulldozers as a human shield, like my dearest sister in Our Lord Jesus Christ, I would do the same were the way for this made clear to me. If so, please pray for an American brother who is gripped by anguish and has fits of crying almost constantly because of what these people are going through. Maybe if I were to go there with the name that I have which is Faith and to pray and help those in need, not the fascist swollen rich that seem to care nothing for the lives of their own people then I would. I would choose to do so through a Catholic organization if this were possible. May God bring a true and lasting peace and may this detestable occupation which in some ways is similar to what my Irish brethren go through END NOW! And if Bush is a war criminal may all the information needed to prosecute him internationally be agreed upon. This is written from the heart of the US who wants 2 states and not 1 like evangelically insane fascists in our own country and abroad so greedily desire as they spew their racist venom. Viva Palestine+Viva the Israelis of GOOD WILL!
