Israeli Apartheid Wall Defaced Tuesday at Abu Dis by Mexican Muralists

The International Center of Bethlehem

October 27, 2004

Bethlehem- Three visiting Mexican muralists and Palestinian colleagues painted large resistance murals on the Israeli Apartheid Wall in Abu Dis on Oct. 25, 2004. The murals were painted on a section of the wall near the soccer field near Al Quds University in Abu Dis.

Members of the community expressed interest in the project, as did passersby.

The large, colorful resistance murals including a woman whose hair represented the Palestinian flag and a huge dove breaking through the chains of oppression stand as a sign of opposition to the Apartheid Wall and calls for its demolition in accordance with the decision of the International Court of Justice decision July 9.

The three visiting artists-in-residence are part of the International Center of Bethlehem’s art program and hail from Mexico City and the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Chiapas.
